LA'L RATTY

The "sublime to the ridiculous"? Not really, but these pictures do show how much variation you can get with locomotives! Far left is a BR Class 20 preserved on the Yorkshire Dales Railway. On the far right, a Simplex living at the same venue. For comparison I've put the Ravenglass and Eskdale loco in the middle.
Two more standard gauge loco's based at the YDR. On the left a Class 31 and on the right a Class 47. I spent 20 years with British Rail, latterly Scotrail. As a guard working out of Glasgow Queen Street, I was very fond of the 47/7's we used on the Edinburgh to Glasgow Push - Pull service. Especially as I took to the trains at the end of the Class 27 at each end P-P service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Or complete lack of!!!!!!!!)

STAINMORE RAILWAY
I found the Stainmore Railway premises at Kirkby Stephen East when visiting the Eden Classic Rally 2007. Although the railway is only embryonic it's well worth a visit.
EDEN VALLEY RAILWAY
About five miles west of Brough on the A66 you find Warcop. A wonderful village and home of the EVR. It's slightly strange to find old Southern third rail electrics running in Cumbria. But it's a very pleasant place to visit and see trains.
Our nearest station is St Bees on the Carlisle to Barrow line, despite being a rural route, there are some interesting trains and I'll build the views.

Whitehaven is the next station going north, below, left to right. Bransty signalbox, a view of the station looking south,  and a train arriving from Carlisle.
WANLOCKHEAD & LEADHILLS RAILWAY.
Above are three pictures of the engines at the W&LR. Below some wider views. Check the links page for more information.
CARLISLE 1st JULY 2007
The results of a short visit to Carlisle, depositing a home going guest.
Carlisle 16th February 2008
By a perverse piece of bad luck I was back in Carlisle station waiting for a bus!!!  A rail replacement service was being run by Fraser Eagle.
